Medical Intepreting Program

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) offers a Medical Interpreting Program for individuals fluent in Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, or Haitian Creole.

Program Overview
In collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), this 10-week program includes:
  • 60 hours of remote instruction
  • Up to 20 hours of preparation for the national certification exam (NBCMI – National Board of Certified Medical Interpreters)
  • 40-hour internship at BWH (dates to be determined; required for hospital work)

Languages Offered
The program focuses on the following languages:
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese
  • Arabic
  • Mandarin Chinese
  • Haitian Creole
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in one of these languages to be eligible for enrollment.

Admissions Requirements
To be considered for the program, applicants must:
  • Pass a language fluency test and oral assessment
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Provide proof of COVID-19 and Hepatitis B vaccinations prior to the internship
  • Commit to at least 80% attendance and meet all program requirements

Tuition & Funding
  • Tuition: $1,725 (does not include certification exam fees)

A limited number of seats (18 total) are available.
Scholarship opportunities may be available through the R3 program for eligible students. Priority is given to individuals with demonstrated financial need. Please note that funding is limited and not guaranteed.
