Candidates for SGA President (One Position)
Alyssa Held
My vision and goals for the 2026-2027 Student Government Association:
- Verify budgeting information is kept up-to-date and properly allocated to all clubs and events. This can be done by organizing data clearly and frequently.
- Assist clubs through transitional stages and provide clear steps by documenting and passing on information from past leaders to future ones.
- Push for active involvement on campus by collaborating more with our clubs, and creating volunteer opportunities to encourage students to be active leaders.
My name is Alyssa Held and I am your current Vice President of Academic Affairs. I am running to be your next SGA President for the 2026-2027 academic year. At its core, the SGA exists to serve the interests of the entire student body, and connect students with administration.
If elected, I will lead an SGA that places student interest at the center of decision-making, and ensure policies are inclusive and fair.
During my time in SGA and other campus roles, I’ve observed the changes that are made from both an administrative perspective, and student perspective. I want to translate what I learn from concerns into concrete improvements, and prioritize transparency and proper record-keeping to create a smooth transition between past efforts and future ones. The SGA should be proactive in anticipating student needs and creating effective channels of communication. As an active member of clubs on campus, I understand the importance the Student Government holds in ensuring we create a welcoming environment and can allocate resources properly to make sure our clubs can continue to thrive. I want to ensure that events that have been successful in the past can be carried on in order to encourage more student interest and involvement.
My key accomplishments thus far:
- Chair of SGA’s annual Hackathon: Planning an event for students to collaborate to solve real-world problems.
- Budgeting and Governance: STEM Club Treasurer and Budget Committee member, illustrating responsible budgeting and resource distribution.
- VP of Academic Affairs: Participating in a school-wide Academic Affairs Board to bring student concerns to administration.
If elected, I will lead with transparency and focus on student interests first, and commit myself to listening to concerns voiced first, and bring decisive action for what matters to the student body. I would be honored to earn your vote and hear your ideas for building a better BHCC that supports everyone.
Cristian Mazariegos
My name Is Cristian Mazariegos I’m running for SGA President. What I believe SGA should have in Student Life at BHCC is opportunity and keep building on the work that’s been started, but also take it further by creating new opportunities for students and organizations. I want to make sure students actually know what resources are available to them, feel supported in their ideas, and see real follow through. That means better communication, stronger support for student organizations, and making sure student voices are actually heard and used to make things better.
I believe SGA should actually show up in student life. Not just meetings, not just approvals, but something you can actually feel around campus and in students’ lives too.
It shouldn’t stop once you leave class. A lot of us are dealing with things outside of school, work, family, figuring things out on our own and SGA should understand that. It should be helping connect students to resources, opportunities, and support that actually makes a difference beyond just academics.
From what I’ve seen, there’s a real gap at times between students and administration. SGA should be the thing that closes that. If students are speaking up, it shouldn’t just get heard and left there something should come out of it. That’s what matters.
It should also be a place where people can actually build something. If a student or an organization has an idea, they shouldn’t feel stuck trying to figure everything out. SGA should help push that forward, support them, and create more opportunities instead of just keeping things the same. If elected, I want to make funding feel more accessible. I want students to feel like they can come forward with an idea and have a real chance at making it happen.
At the end of the day, SGA should make this place feel more connected. If elected, I’m not coming in to start from zero, I plan to create and expand it in ways that benefit more students. I want to be someone students can actually reach, talk to, and rely on, whether it’s about an idea, a concern, or something they want to build. At the end of the day, this is about creating more opportunities, supporting both students and organizations, and making BHCC a place where people feel like they belong, not like they’re just passing through.
At the end of the day, I’m running because I know there’s more that can be done. I’ve seen what works, what doesn’t, and where students get left out, and I want to change that. I want to continue building what’s already been started, create new opportunities, and make sure students and organizations actually feel supported.
If elected, I’m going to make sure student voices don’t just get heard, but actually lead to something. That there’s follow-through, real action, and visible change. I want SGA to be something students can rely on, not something that feels distant.
At the end of the day, this is about making BHCC a place where students feel like they belong, where they’re supported, and where they know they have a voice that actually matters.
Arthur Purcino
My name is Arthur Purcino, and I am running for the position of Student Government Association (SGA) President at Bunker Hill Community College.
I believe SGA’s role at BHCC should be to build a stronger, more visible presence in student life on campus. Because BHCC is a commuter school without dorms, it’s easy to assume that student life here is limited — but that couldn’t be further from the truth. We have a large and incredibly diverse student body, with a significant population of international students. For many of us, including myself, campus is where our student life happens. We show up every day, and the environment we step into matters. Having a community that feels welcoming, active, and connected is not a luxury — it’s essential.
Compared to other colleges I’ve attended in the United States, BHCC actually stands out for how engaged and diverse its community is — which is impressive for a commuter school. That’s exactly why campus activities are so important. They’re what bring students together across backgrounds and build a sense of belonging. Unfortunately, this past year has fallen short in that area, with fewer activities and events than our community deserves. At the same time, the school has made major investments over the last three years, including new buildings and expanded resources. I believe now is the moment to match that physical growth with a stronger, more active student experience.
I am running for SGA President because I genuinely believe I am the right person to represent and connect our diverse student body. I see myself as a cultural bridge on this campus. Over the years, I’ve built real relationships across many different communities — regardless of religious background, ethnicity, or nationality — and I’ve always shown up to support them. One of my greatest strengths is being multilingual. I speak English, Portuguese, Spanish, and French, which gives me the ability to communicate directly with students in their native language. That kind of connection goes a long way in understanding what different communities actually need and making them feel heard.
If elected, one of my top priorities will be fixing the budgeting process. This year, many clubs and student organizations struggled to get the funding they needed, which meant fewer events, less participation in competitions, and a quieter campus overall. That’s not okay. I want to push for a fairer and more transparent budget allocation system — one that gives clubs the resources to actually do what they set out to do. Whether it’s hosting an event, traveling to a competition, or just keeping their organization running, clubs deserve real support.
At the end of the day, my goal is simple: I want every student at BHCC to feel like they belong here. I want to help build a campus community that is louder, more connected, and more representative of everyone who walks through these doors. I’m ready to put in the work, and I would be honored to have your support.
Kindly,
Future SGA President
Arthur Purcino
Ilana Stinson
My name is Ilana Stinson, and I am running for Student Government Association President at Bunker Hill Community College.
Student government should not be something students occasionally hear about and quickly forget. It should be felt in how information reaches them, in the support they receive, and in the sense of community on campus. At BHCC, the SGA has the potential to be an active, visible force that listens to students and works to ensure they have the resources and support they need to succeed.
I am running for SGA President because I know what it looks like when student voices and needs are taken seriously, and I know how to help make that happen here. I have spent years working in positions to identify gaps in opportunities and access and help build real solutions. In Boston schools, I served as a liaison between administration and a team working directly with students to improve equity. That role required more than attendance at meetings. I was responsible for ensuring student needs were clearly communicated upward, while simultaneously helping translate priorities into actionable plans for the people doing the work on the ground. I managed school-wide initiatives and piloted a data-informed math program designed to close persistent gaps in comprehension and fluency. That work taught me how to navigate institutional complexity and earn trust across different levels of an organization, following through on initiatives that had real impacts for students.
I have also spent considerable time in direct service and advocacy. In Boston, I have volunteered in homeless shelters and partnered with the American Red Cross on fire safety outreach. Work with Habitat for Humanity took me to Louisiana to help rebuild homes after a hurricane, and mentorship work brought me to Pennsylvania, where I supported youth experiencing housing instability. Closer to home, I have worked with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to support family members of homicide victims and advocated for human rights and systemic change through Amnesty International. I have also facilitated social justice sessions for groups of more than 100 people, creating space for conversations that were honest and challenging.
This work is what brought me here. It has shown me how critical it is for students to not only have access to resources, but actually understand those resources and feel empowered to use them. At BHCC, I want SGA to be something students truly experience rather than occasionally hear about. This means creating accessible pathways for involvement and a sense of belonging.
Equity is at the center of how I approach this work. That commitment to equity also means being willing to rethink what is not working. I am not interested in preserving processes simply because they are familiar. When something can be done better, it should be. Real advocacy requires more than acknowledging student concerns. It requires consistent follow-through and a willingness to have direct conversations with administration on students' behalf.
I am both someone who will speak up when something needs to change and someone students can approach and trust. Leadership, to me, is not just about holding a title. It is about being accountable to the people you represent and doing the work even when it is not visible.
SGA can be something students genuinely rely on, and I am prepared to do what it takes to achieve this. If elected, I will hold myself to a standard of real accountability and bring follow-through to every commitment made on behalf of the student body.
Thank you for your consideration.
Candidates for SGA Vice President of Administration and Finance (One Position)
Aya Belhadj Elkhadir
I am running for Vice President of Administration and Finance because I want to bring structure, accountability, and purpose to how resources are managed and used. Financial decisions are at the core of what an organization can or cannot accomplish. When funds are allocated with intention and clarity, they can support meaningful events, student-led initiatives, and programs that genuinely enhance campus life. My goal is to ensure that every dollar serves a purpose and contributes to something visible and impactful for students.
As someone who has worked in fast-paced environments and taken on leadership responsibilities, I understand the importance of organization, communication, and efficiency. I have learned how to manage responsibilities under pressure, work collaboratively with others, and maintain a strong sense of discipline and commitment. These experiences have shaped the way I approach challenges: with focus, adaptability, and a drive to improve systems rather than simply maintain them.
If elected, I plan to contribute by increasing transparency in financial processes and making budget decisions more accessible and understandable to students. Students should feel that they are not only represented, but also informed. I would also work to support student-led ideas by ensuring there is a clear and fair process for funding initiatives, encouraging creativity and participation across campus.
Additionally, I want to help SGA become more efficient internally. This includes improving how resources are tracked, how decisions are communicated, and how quickly ideas can move from concept to execution. An organized and responsive SGA can make a significant difference in how students perceive their role within the college community.
I am not running for this position simply to hold a title, but to actively contribute to building something that functions effectively and leaves a lasting impact. I believe that with the right structure and mindset, SGA can become a space where ideas are not only heard but transformed into action.
Thank you for your consideration.
Minsoo Shin
My name is Minsoo Shin, and I am running for Vice President of Administration and Finance for the Student Government Association. My goal is to ensure that student funds are used transparently and fairly to empower students, support their ideas, and build a BHCC culture that truly reflects and represents the whole community.
I am running for this position because of my experience as a high school treasurer in the Student Government Association, where I managed budgets, spending, and supported student activities financially. As a treasurer, I learned how many students and clubs rely on funding for their activities, which showed me the importance of responsible and accessible financial support. If elected, I want to bring that same mindset to BHCC by focusing on three main goals. First, I want to improve transparency in how SGA funds are allocated, so student organizations clearly understand how to request and use funding. Second, I want to make funding more accessible by simplifying processes and ensuring that smaller or newer clubs have a fair opportunity to grow. Third, I want to work closely with other SGA members and students to make sure financial decisions reflect real student needs and priorities.
I believe one of most important values is transparency․ The students should know everything that goes on in the SGA․ I want students to know when the SGA meets‚ what our budget is used for‚ and what we're working on․ If students understand how the student government works‚ they will be much more likely to want to be involved in it․ If elected‚ I will make sure to keep open lines of communication through social media and open forums for students to voice their opinions and share recommendations․ I believe that if students feel like they have a voice‚ it will make for an environment where trust and engagement improve the sense that we're all in this together․
Furthermore‚ a main purpose of the SGA is to ensure equitable distribution of funds to student clubs and organizations. Though many student organizations and clubs rely on the SGA for survival‚ the process of obtaining SGA funding is often difficult for such groups․ I believe that every organization‚ of every size and mission‚ should have a chance to compete․ And if elected‚ I will work to make the funding process more efficient and more transparent for grantees and for all of you․ This will include‚ but not be limited to‚ providing guidance for funding‚ workshops on how to apply for funding‚ and ensuring the collective needs of student organizations are being met․ By providing support for our student organizations‚ we help them to succeed and work towards building a positive BHCC community through collaboration‚ creativity‚ and community․ Accountability and responsibility are essential to the success of student representatives․ As SGA representatives‚ we are held to the standards of our peers․ If I'm elected‚ I plan to implement a standard of accountability for all members of the SGA to regularly evaluate how well we are sticking to the goals of our initiatives and our allocation of funds․
I believe that my vision for the SGA is aligned with the needs and aspirations of students here at BHCC․ By focusing on transparency‚ equitable funding‚ student organizations‚ accountability‚ and efficiency I believe that we can empower students to take an active role in their college experience․ I ask for your support to make our SGA a team that will consider the voices and ideas of every student and make you feel welcomed‚ respected‚ and appreciated․ connections and memories last a lifetime․ Let's work together to make BHCC not just a college but a true home for all students․
Candidates for SGA Vice President of Academic Affairs (One Position)
Usman Barlas
My name is Usman Barlas, and I am currently pursuing an English concentration at Bunker Hill Community College. As a student who is deeply committed to academic growth, leadership, and community engagement, I am excited to run for the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Through my experience at BHCC, I have seen how important the Student Government Association is in shaping the student experience. As the official voice of the student body, SGA advocates for student needs, supports campus organizations, and works closely with faculty and administration to improve college life. Beyond advocacy, SGA also helps create an engaging and supportive environment where students can grow both academically and socially.
During my time at BHCC, I have worked to grow both inside and outside the classroom. I currently maintain a 4.0 GPA while also being involved in student leadership through volunteering for Student Government panels and events. I am also in the process of completing the Exploring Leadership Program, where I am developing practical leadership skills centered around communication, responsibility, and teamwork. Additionally, I look forward to contributing to the BHCC community through the ACE Mentor Program, where I hope to support and guide fellow students.
Through these experiences, I understand firsthand that navigating college can be challenging—especially when it comes to course registration, accessing academic resources, and balancing responsibilities. Because of this, my goal is to make the academic experience at BHCC more accessible, transparent, and supportive for all students.
I am running for Vice President of Academic Affairs because I believe every student deserves a clear and supported path toward their goals. Success in college is not just about taking classes—it is about having access to the right resources, guidance, and opportunities.
If elected, I will focus on the following priorities:
• Strengthen Academic Support Awareness
Increase visibility and access to services such as AIDE, Math Space, and The Writing Place so that no student feels unsupported.
• Improve Student–Faculty Communication
Create more opportunities for open dialogue and feedback, ensuring student voices are represented in academic decisions.
• Simplify Academic Navigation
Make processes like course registration and understanding class formats clearer and easier to navigate, especially for new students.
• Promote Academic and Career Opportunities
Help students stay informed about internships, scholarships, academic programs, and campus organizations aligned with their goals.
My goal is to ensure that every student at BHCC feels informed, supported, and confident in their academic path.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I would be honored to serve as your Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Usman Barlas

How SGA Supports the BHCC Student Experience
I believe SGA serves as the voice of the students and acts as the bridge between students and the administration. Its role is to listen, represent real concerns, and help ensure that student perspectives are included when decisions are made. Many BHCC students juggle school, work, and family, so not everyone has the time or opportunity to advocate for themselves. SGA can help make sure every student has a chance to be heard. SGA also helps build a community in which students feel welcomed, informed, and supported. When students experience a sense of belonging, they are more confident and more likely to succeed. By improving communication, sharing helpful resources, and encouraging active involvement, SGA strengthens student life for the entire community.
Motivation for Running & Goals if Elected
I am running for Vice President of Academic Affairs because supporting students has been an important part of my life for many years. I have more than ten years of experience as an academic tutor, and during that time I have worked closely with students who were capable, motivated, but also facing real academic challenges. I understand that learning is not always easy, and I have faced struggles in my own education as well. These experiences shaped how I see leadership. Progress happens when people work together, encourage one another, and refuse to give up.
My commitment to students extends beyond tutoring. As a volunteer with SGA, I spent meaningful time connecting with fellow students in the B-lobby about books and their academic pathways. What I discovered was simple but powerful. We open up and engage more deeply when we feel genuinely heard. This experience of building community around shared learning stays with me, and it is part of what drew me to run for this position. If elected, I hope to bring that spirit to developing initiatives that put students first and bring them together around their academic journeys.
Ximena Terrazas Borbon
My name is Ximena Terrazas, and I am running for the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs within the Student Government Association (SGA) at Bunker Hill Community College. This role serves as an indispensable communication tool between students and the academic structures that help shaping the educational experience.
I believe that having a well shaped Student Government Association is indispensable on any college campus, and specifically at BHCC, that it has the power to be truly impactful and transformative. The SGA is not simply a formality that needs to be comply, it is the official representation of the student body voice, and it carries a real responsibility to advocate for every student need, concerns, and academical aspirations.
I am running for Vice President of Academic Affairs because I understand, from personal experience, how it feels to be on an academic system that was not designed with you in mind. As a Mexican international student, I came to BHCC with my academic goals, but also the challenges that come with adapting to a whole new country and an unfamiliar educational system. And by working in the International Center as a Desk and Admissions Assistant I became aware of the unknowledge that still exist between students and the academic services available to them. That experience gave me a perspective that I believe is essential in a student representative.
If elected, I will bring dedication, consistency, and a genuine student centered perspective to this role. I will made myself welcoming for any student who needs support, especially those who may feel intimidated or unsure in whom to talk to.
Specifically, I hope to strengthen the connection between students and academic support services such as tutoring, advising, and library resources. I will advocate for clearer communication around academic policies and deadlines. And I will ensure that the student body’s needs are brought up to the attention of the right academic structure.
I have lived the student experience at BHCC as an outsider who became part of this community, and I know it can be hard to find your place here. I want to make that path easier, clearer, and more equal for every student who comes after me.

Shelsy Christie Celidor
Sometimes, I would sit in my grandma’s front yard, watching the hibiscus blossom with the sun and wilt the same evening, gentle yet unforgettable. It was an endless cycle of wilting and returning, each new bloom more radiant than the previous. All year round, like nature’s offering to us humans, it brings warmth, connection, and a moment of joy to anyone who walks by. It holds a perfect balance between standing out and contributing without ever needing credit.
As I’ve grown, I’ve realized that leadership works the same. In the words of Lao Tzu, “A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves.” Being a leader is not about being the center of the story, but more like a third-person narrator, “guiding the story from an outside perspective, allowing for different levels of insight into others’ thoughts and feelings.” I strive to uphold the same standard in my day-to-day life, and that desire led me to apply for the Student Government Association.
My name is Shelsy, and I’m running for SGA’s Vice President of Student Affairs. As a Haitian student, community has always been at the center of how I move through the world, and I believe the Student Government Association should play that same role. To me, it serves as a bridge between students and the administration, making life on campus more accessible, welcoming, and easier to navigate. One that makes every single student feel seen and represented, every single day. I’m running for office to continue the work that past student leaders have already started, and to help nurture the sense of community that makes BHCC feel welcoming. My goal is to support the systems, clubs, and connections that are already helping students feel included, and to keep that momentum going.
There is beauty and warmth in walking alongside one another, choosing collaboration, and believing that shared roots make us stronger. And somewhere in that softness, I’m reminded of that hibiscus that blooms just because it can.
Faith-Marie Djédjey
My name is Faith-Marie Djedjey, and I am running for Vice President of Student Affairs in the Student Government Association (SGA) at Bunker Hill Community College.
I am currently a Business major. This is my second semester, and when I first came to BHCC, I wasn’t very involved on campus. I was mostly focused on adjusting, understanding my classes, and just finding my place. I started looking for a club about two weeks after the semester began, and I joined the Business Club. After that, I tried to get even more involved by joining the Diplomacy Club this semester. In addition to that, I’ve also tried to be more present on campus when I can and where I can. Over time, I realized that a lot of students are in the same situation: present, but not really connected. That feeling of being “on campus but not really part of campus” is something I understand personally, and it’s one of the reasons I decided to step into student involvement through the Business Club and the Diplomacy Club.
I believe SGA should not feel distant or too formal. It should feel like a real bridge between students and the college, something students can actually approach when they are confused, frustrated, or just trying to figure things out. Right now, a lot of students don’t speak up not because they don’t care, but because they feel distant from SGA, or they don’t really feel seen or heard. That is what I want to change.
If elected Vice President of Student Affairs, my main goals would be:
First, I want to create a clearer way for students to voice concerns without feeling intimidated or ignored. This means setting up simple, consistent feedback systems like quick monthly student check-ins, open office hours that feel approachable (not too formal or intimidating), and a straightforward digital form that can be anonymous, where students can submit issues and actually see whether they are being addressed. The goal is not just to collect feedback, but to make sure students see follow-up and real action from what they share.
I also want to focus on student belonging. Many students attend classes but don’t feel connected to anything beyond that. Students don’t participate in on-campus activities and clubs for multiple reasons: lack of will, time, social comfort, some students feel like it’s “too late to join,” some don’t think they’re fun, some don’t see clear value, some don’t even know that they exist, and there are multiple other reasons.
For me, improving student engagement should focus on removing barriers rather than expecting students to push through them. We should make involvement more automatic, social, and part of student life instead of something students have to “go find.”
We also need to move beyond passive communication and bring clubs and activities directly to students in a structured and consistent way. For example, instead of relying on posters or social media that many students don’t really check, clubs could organize short “in-class introduction tours” twice per semester, where club presidents or representatives spend 3 to 5 minutes briefly presenting their club, explaining what students actually do in it, and handing out simple, clear flyers. This could also be done through a coordinated “Club Spotlight Week,” where each day a few clubs present in high-traffic areas like cafeterias or common spaces using quick, engaging pitches. The goal is to make exposure unavoidable but not overwhelming, so students hear about opportunities directly in their daily environment rather than having to actively search for them. This would help students discover clubs naturally, reduce the barrier of not knowing where to start, and make involvement feel more familiar and accessible from the very beginning. I think with this, we can shift from “students join clubs” to “student life naturally brings clubs to students.”
I would also work to support events and initiatives and make them truly inclusive, where students feel invited, not just informed.
As a Business major, I am learning how structure, communication, and leadership affect how people experience systems. I want to bring that mindset into SGA, not as someone who has all the answers, but as someone who pays attention, listens carefully, and takes students seriously.
I am not running because I already feel like a leader. I am running because I want to grow into one while doing something meaningful for others. I know what it feels like to be new in a country and in a school, unsure, wanting to do something but hesitating because you are not sure where you belong yet, and not feeling fully connected. I also know how much difference it makes when someone actually listens and follows through.
If elected, I will focus on being present, consistent, and reachable. This position will also help me grow as a leader by learning how to better understand and represent people’s needs, and how to turn ideas and concerns into real actions that improve student life.
My goal is not just to hold a position, but to make student life at BHCC feel a little more connected, a little more human, and a little more responsive to the people who are actually living it every day. I believe leadership is not just about what you gain from a role, but about what you choose to contribute to others, and I want to bring that mindset into everything I do in this position.
Thank you for your consideration.
Faith-Marie Djedjey
Sejin Kim
Hello, my name is Sejin Kim. I am running for the position of Vice President of Student Affairs in the BHCC Student Government Association.
Having served as a Student Senator during the Spring 2026 semester, I have gained invaluable experience in reflecting students’ voices in college operations while connecting students from diverse backgrounds. I believe that SGA should ensure that students can access a better academic and community experience, rather than simply organizing events or holding representative titles.
During my high school years, I also served in the Associated Student Body (ASB) as a student representative. Through this role, I was able to learn how to listen to the concerns and ideas of the students and communicate them effectively to the faculty. My experience in the ASB, which involved engaging in discussions and working together to make positive changes, will definitely help me in responsibly representing the students of BHCC.
I would like to represent the diverse needs and perspectives of all students and contribute to positive change across campus life through my candidacy. Specifically, as Vice President of Student Affairs, I will act as a dedicated liaison between all clubs, organizations, and the SGA to ensure their concerns are heard and addressed. I aim to propose practical improvements to student programs and campus environments by actively evaluating our current club activities and student life resources. Since I believe communication is essential to constructing an ideal community, I will prioritize clear communication and ensure every club and student voice is treated fairly.
If I am elected to this position, I will continue to work to enrich student experiences at BHCC and implement student-centered decisions in both learning and activities. Additionally, I hope to contribute to creating an environment where students with diverse cultural backgrounds and academic goals can connect, learn from each other’s experiences, and grow. Based on my problem-solving and organizational skills, I am prepared to suggest concrete solutions that students really require and contribute to actual change.
As Vice President, I will actively participate in discussions to ensure that student opinions and concerns regarding student life are reflected in policies and programs, contributing to the development of a more inclusive BHCC community. I am committed to developing an SGA where every student and every organization feels respected and represented.
Thank you.
Rafaella Malta
My name is Rafaella Malta, and I am running for Vice President of Student Affairs of the Student Government Association at Bunker Hill Community College.
I believe the role of the Student Government Association at BHCC is to ensure every student has the structure and opportunities needed to succeed academically and personally. In BHCC, people come from very different backgrounds, with different goals and levels of knowledge on how the academic system works, and it is the responsibility of SGA to make sure all students have their needs met and guarantee that the college is providing the quality education and resources they deserve. This includes supporting engaging activities, promoting academic events and ensuring students know how to take advantage of available resources such as transfer pathways. Through weekly meetings, listening to questions and advocating for concerns, the Student Government Association should be seen as a reliable connection between students and the college administration.
My motivation to run for Vice President of Student Affairs comes from my own experience as a student here. Coming from another country, when I first got to BHCC, I didn’t know anyone or how the college system worked. It was by coincidence that I discovered student clubs, and by complete luck that I found one where I truly belonged. That club was my way into campus life, giving me friendships, a sense of community, and a reason to want to be a part of this institution.
With time, I got more involved in campus life, participated in many of the college events, helped organize a campaign that gave BHCC students the opportunity to attend Harvard National Model United Nations for the first time, and eventually became the Vice-President of a student club. This experience allowed me to understand how college organizations work from the inside, the processes and resources they depend on, the communication needed between officers and Student Affairs, and the challenges that can get in the way of organizing activities and events, while also remembering the feeling of being a new student that needed guidance. Having experienced both perspectives made me understand how much having an active community can change someone's entire academic journey. It also made me value clubs and organizations as one of the most powerful tools a college offers to help students thrive both socially and academically.
If I get elected as Vice President of Student Affairs, I hope to ensure that all students, especially those who are international, first-generation or in need of a community, have support and a clear path to get directly involved in the college’s activities. I want every student at BHCC to feel informed, and an important part of the college, where they will have an opportunity to grow. Because of this, my main goal will be towards making the communication between student clubs, the Office of Student Activities and the SGA easier, guaranteeing that all club officers have instructions and access to the resources they need to create new experiences and keep students engaged.
Anita Zabetian Hosseini
I believe that the Student Government Association (SGA) should play a central and active role in shaping a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive student life at Bunker Hill Community College. SGA should not only act as a representative body, but also as a strong voice for students ensuring that their needs, ideas, and concerns are heard and addressed effectively. A successful SGA creates a bridge between students and administration, builds trust, and fosters a sense of belonging across the entire campus community. Student life goes far beyond academics. It includes feeling welcomed, valued, and connected. Many students especially new, international, or commuting students can sometimes feel isolated or unsure about how to get involved. I believe SGA should take initiative in making student life more engaging by creating opportunities for students to connect, express themselves, and participate in campus activities. Through well-organized events, inclusive programs, and active outreach, SGA can transform the student experience into something meaningful and memorable. Events should reflect the diversity of the student body and provide both social and personal development opportunities. Whether it is cultural events, wellness initiatives, or interactive workshops, SGA has the power to make campus life more dynamic and supportive. I am running for the position of Vice President of Student Affairs because I am passionate about improving the student experience and making a positive impact in my community. I am someone who genuinely listens, cares, and wants to help others feel included and supported. As a student, I understand the challenges that come with balancing academics, adapting to a new environment, and trying to find your place within the college.
This role is important to me because it focuses directly on students’ well-being and engagement. I want to be a voice for students who may not feel comfortable speaking up, and I want to ensure that every student has access to opportunities that enhance their college experience. If elected, I plan to focus on increasing student engagement by organizing diverse and inclusive events that appeal to a wide range of interests. I would also like to collaborate with student organizations and clubs to strengthen the sense of community on campus. Supporting student-led initiatives is essential in creating a more active and connected environment. Another important goal of mine is to improve communication between students and SGA. Many students are not fully aware of the resources, events, and opportunities available to them. I want to make sure information is shared clearly and consistently, using platforms that students actually engage with. Transparency and accessibility are key to building trust and participation. Additionally, I aim to advocate for students by bringing their concerns directly to the administration and working toward realistic and effective solutions. Whether it involves improving campus activities, supporting mental health and wellness, or addressing student concerns, I am committed to taking action.
Leadership, to me, means being approachable, responsible, and proactive. It means listening carefully, understanding different perspectives, and turning ideas into action. I am ready to dedicate my time, energy, and effort to represent my peers with honesty and commitment. My goal is to help create a stronger, more connected, and more supportive student community at BHCC where every student feels seen, heard, and valued. Thank you for your consideration.
Candidates for SGA Vice President of Human Resources (One Position)
Nicolas Rodrigues Couto
My name is Nicolas Rodrigues Couto, and I am running for the position of Vice President of Human Resources in the Student Government Association (SGA) at Bunker Hill Community College. I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to run for this role, and to support the student body.
I am motivated to run for this position because of the connection between academic success and student involvement. Being part of SGA motivate the students to engage with college experiences, building connections, participating in volunteering opportunities, and developing important skills such as communication, teamwork, and leadership. As Vice President of Human Resources, I would like to create an environment where students can conciliate and be motivated to involve with campus activates as well as growing academically and personally.
This kind of involvement bring together our campus community but also helps students build valuable skills and experiences that will enhance their resumes and prepare them for future careers. I believe that supporting student leaders and promoting involvement, we can create opportunities that will benefit students for life.
I also believe that the Student Government Association plays an important role regarding college experience where the SGA connects student to college administration, and making sure that student voices are heard and considered which impacts the campus life. Supporting student organizations and events, for example. As Vice President of Human Resources, I would contribute by helping maintain a well-organized, supportive, and collaborative team within SGA.
In conclusion, I want students to feel motivated to get involved in campus activities, build connection, and grow academically and personally. If elected, I will do my best to listen, support others, and to contribute to a stronger campus community. I would appreciate your vote and the chance to be Vice President of Human Resources.
Candidates for SGA Vice President of Communications (One Position)
Christina Mercure
I am proud to announce my candidacy for the position of Vice President of Communications in the Student Government Association at Bunker Hill Community College. I currently serve as the Vice President of Human Resources, and through this role, I have had the opportunity to actively contribute to strengthening SGA from within supporting our members, improving internal processes, and helping build a more collaborative, accountable, and inclusive team. These experiences have not only deepened my understanding of student government, but have also shown me how essential strong, transparent communication is to building trust and engagement across campus. I am running for this position to expand that impact and ensure every student feels informed, heard, and connected.
The Student Government Association should serve as a bridge between students and the institution. It should be a space where student voices are not only represented, but amplified. SGA plays a critical role in shaping student life at BHCC by advocating for student needs, supporting clubs and organizations, and creating opportunities for meaningful involvement. However, SGA’s impact is only as strong as its ability to communicate with the students it represents. Too often, important information, opportunities, and initiatives do not reach the full student body. As Vice President of Communications, I want to change that. I want to ensure that every student, regardless of their background, schedule, or level of involvement, has access to clear, consistent, and engaging communication from SGA.
My experience as Vice President of Human Resources has given me a strong foundation to take on this role. In my role, I have worked to strengthen internal communication by helping establish clearer expectations, improving collaboration among members, and ensuring that everyone feels supported and valued. I have advocated for creating a team environment where ideas are welcomed, feedback is encouraged, and members are empowered to succeed. Through this work, I have seen firsthand how communication shapes not only how a team functions, but how effectively it serves others. I have also had the opportunity to support leadership development, help navigate challenges within the organization, and contribute to building a more unified and productive SGA. These experiences have prepared me to expand our communication efforts outward and better connect with the broader student body.
If elected, I will focus on making SGA more visible, transparent, and accessible to all students. I will work to ensure that communication is not only consistent, but also engaging and inclusive. This includes providing regular updates on SGA initiatives, decisions, and opportunities for involvement so that students always know what is happening and how they can participate. I also plan to strengthen SGA’s presence across social media and campus platforms by creating content that is informative, relevant, and easy to access. In addition, I want to establish stronger and more reliable feedback channels so that students can share their ideas, concerns, and experiences. Communication should not be one-sided, it should be a conversation, and I am committed to making sure students feel heard.
Another priority of mine is strengthening collaboration between SGA and student organizations. Clubs and organizations are a vital part of student life at BHCC, and they deserve to have their voices and initiatives amplified. As Vice President of Communications, I will work to highlight their events, support their outreach efforts, and create stronger connections between SGA and the broader student community. By doing so, we can build a more connected campus where students feel encouraged to get involved and take part in shaping their college experience.
I believe that communication is the foundation of effective leadership and a strong community. When students are informed, they are empowered to take action. When students feel heard, they are more engaged and invested in their campus. And when communication is clear and consistent, it builds trust. I am committed to strengthening that trust and ensuring that SGA truly reflects and represents the voices of the student body.
I bring not only experience, but also dedication, reliability, and a genuine passion for serving others. I have already demonstrated my commitment through my work as Vice President of Human Resources, and I am ready to build on that foundation in this new role. I am confident in my ability to lead with purpose, communicate with clarity, and represent students with integrity.
I respectfully ask for your support and your vote for Vice President of Communications. Together, we can build a more connected, informed, and engaged BHCC community. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Candidates for SGA Vice President of Technology (One Position)
Dayane Moreira Cardoso
The role you believe SGA should have in Student Life at BHCC
I believe the SGA should play a central role in student life at BHCC by not only representing student voices, but by actively improving how students experience the college on a daily basis. SGA should function as a bridge between students and the institution, making resources more accessible, communication clearer, and opportunities easier to navigate. It should not feel distant or difficult to understand, but instead be visible, organized, and responsive to student needs.
Beyond advocacy, SGA should also focus on building systems that work. This means creating better structures for communication, improving access to information, and supporting student engagement through clear and efficient processes. In my view, a strong SGA is not only one that listens, but one that takes action, turning feedback into practical solutions that directly improve student life.
Why you are running for office
I’m running for this position because I see a clear opportunity to improve how systems work internally at SGA and make a real, practical impact on student life at BHCC.
As a student, I have experienced how confusing and disorganized digital systems can make it harder to find information, communicate, and stay engaged. Instead of accepting that as normal, I want to help fix it.
My background in education taught me how to support people and communicate clearly, while my experience in technology has trained me to think in terms of systems, structure, and efficiency. Through my work with the Brazil Conference at Harvard & MIT, I have already worked on improving digital communication and accessibility in real-world settings.
I’m not running for this position just to participate, I’m running because I want to build systems that are clear, organized, and actually useful for students.
What you hope to contribute if elected
If elected, I hope to contribute by making SGA’s digital systems more organized, efficient, and truly useful for students and members.
First, I want to improve the structure of platforms like Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and email by creating clear organization systems, so information is easy to find and communication is more consistent.
Second, I want to increase efficiency by standardizing workflows internally SGA. This includes improving how information is shared, how updates are communicated, and how members collaborate across committees.
Finally, I want to strengthen the Technology Committee by making it a space for collaboration and innovation, where students can actively contribute to improving SGA systems instead of only maintaining them.
My goal is to ensure that SGA technology supports the organization in a clear, reliable, and accessible way, helping both members and students stay informed, connected, and engaged. I also plan to identify current gaps in how digital tools are being used and implement practical improvements based on feedback from SGA members.

The Role of SGA in BHCC Student Life:
The Student Government Association (SGA) should serve as a bridge between the student body and the college’s resources. At Bunker Hill Community College, the student population is very diverse, consisting of working professionals, parents, or lifelong learners. Because of this, student life isn’t just about campus events; it’s about the accessibility of a community that fosters success for everyone, regardless of their background.
The SGA’s role in the community is to ensure that all students feel comfortable and supported while navigating their academic journeys. Whether it’s through improving how clubs communicate or streamlining access to academic resources, the SGA’s primary duty is to be a reliable force that makes the student’s experience at BHCC more efficient and connected.
Why I am Running for Office:
Since my first day on campus, I was interested in joining the SGA because I wanted to be a direct advocate for the student body. My time at BHCC so far has been shaped by a desire to help others. Whether I am working as a math tutor or assisting in the formation of a new campus club, my goal is to build something that outlasts my time here.
I am running for Vice President of Technology because I believe that in our current era, technology and digital tools are the backbone of a “proper” educational experience. However, technology should serve the student, not the other way around. Through the usage of my background in Computer Science and my years of experience in digital systems such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite, I want to ensure our technology is resourceful and intuitive.
What I Hope to Contribute:
My vision for the Office of Technology focuses on two key areas:
- Enhancing Resource Accessibility: Currently, the school lacks proper accessibility support for academic assistance resources like the MathSpace. I will advocate for the placement of clearer, user-friendly interfaces, making it easier for students to book and access help.
- Improvement of Digital Tools. I want to ensure that all BHCC students, including those who may not be “tech-savvy,” feel comfortable using the college’s digital tools through clearer documentation and support initiatives led by students.
I am committed to making our technology work for you.
Candidates for SGA Executive Secretary (One Position)
Emem Obot
My name is Emem Okpukpan Obot, and I am honored to put my name forward as a candidate for the position of SGA Executive Secretary.
I am currently enrolled in the Paralegal Studies Program at Bunker Hill Community College. I also hold a Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Business Law from Northeastern University School of Law, where I had the distinct honor of serving as the School of Law Commencement Speaker in 2024. I am a licensed Attorney in Nigeria and am currently preparing for the Massachusetts Bar Examination in July 2025.
The role of Executive Secretary is one I do not take lightly and one I am uniquely prepared for. As Executive Board Member Secretary of the Nigerian Professional Group in Boston Massachusetts, I currently coordinate board meetings, maintain governance documentation, ensure clear and consistent communication between all board members, and make sure the voice and decisions of the organization are accurately and effectively communicated to its members. As an Immigration Paralegal at Bos Legal Group, I maintained meticulous records, managed complex case files, and ensured strict compliance with documentation standards. As Corporate Counsel in Nigeria, I led legal teams, drafted and negotiated over 300 contracts, and produced high-quality written communications under demanding deadlines.
These experiences have sharpened precisely the skills the Executive Secretary role demands accuracy, organization, discretion, and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally on behalf of an organization.
I am also currently an active member of the Programs and Professional Development Committee of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association and the New Lawyers Forum Association commitments that reflect my dedication to the legal profession, professional growth, and building meaningful connections within the legal community.
As SGA Executive Secretary, I will not only ensure that meeting agendas and minutes are handled with the highest level of professionalism, but I will also serve as a bridge — making sure that the decisions, initiatives, and vision of the SGA are communicated clearly and meaningfully to the student body we are here to serve.
Beyond my professional background, I am deeply committed to this campus community. I ran in the recent SGA Special Election for Vice President of Academic Affairs, and I have since been personally invited by SGA leadership to join the General Election Committee. I show up, and I care about the students I would be serving alongside.
I am ready to serve, ready to contribute, and ready to help move this organization forward.
Thank you for your consideration.

Candidates for SGA Senator at Large (Six Positions)
Helen German
My name is Helen German, and I am running for SGA senator-at-large. In my view, the SGA’s role should be to support students and provide a voice for them. Given that the members of the SGA are themselves students, they can use that unique perspective to guide their decision-making as someone in a position of power. They should also pay attention to their fellow students’ concerns so that they can best determine what the SGA should prioritize and act based on that knowledge. In this way, the SGA will provide the greatest benefit to the student population it is intended to serve.
I am running for office because I aim to represent my fellow students’ interests in the SGA. I have experience in a student officer role at BHCC, as I was the public media officer of Games Club during the Fall 2025 semester. In this role, I was in charge of taking photos for the club and running social media, which taught me about communication and handling public relations. Also, I have volunteering experience at the nonprofit organization Creative Learning Haven, where I honed several other important skills, such as cooperating with team members, organizing events, problem-solving when things go wrong, creating visual materials, and speaking to an audience. As a volunteer, I was also involved with reading and providing feedback on work by refugees in Uganda, which helped me learn about cross-cultural interactions and bridging gaps despite barriers in language and physical distance. I believe these are relevant skills to the task of an SGA member, as the student body of BHCC is made up of people from many different cultural, national, and linguistic backgrounds.
I am thankful to have had these opportunities to learn and grow, and I hope to use these experiences to be the best senator-at-large I can. If I am elected, I promise to work hard, and listen to and advocate for student voices. Together, let’s build a better BHCC for all of us!
Maureen Glynn
Hello, my name is Maureen Glynn (she)and I am running for Senator-at-Large in the 2026-2027 election.
I am a Commonwealth Honors student and PTK member as well as actively involved with student government now as a volunteer. My late father’s activism organizing neighbors into a tenant group, his caring for family and community motivate me. I carry that motivation to serving others through a healthcare board advocacy, tenants rights and education rights efforts.
Equity, access and making sure students have what they need are a priority to me. Programs such as the Center for Equity and cultural wealth and TRIO as well as DISH provide hope to students and I will make sure more students are aware of them.
My volunteer work has included serving in a health policy council, running a tenant group and advocating for people in medical situations as a proxy and as a community member.
Here are three areas that I will advocate for
1. SGA Accessibility: Launching monthly video highlights to make student government welcoming, transparent and communicating with you all better.
2. Empowering student self advocacy: Advocating for a specialized BHCC website landing page with email templates to write to professor for help or Extension, a simplified explanation page of department contacts and their function.
3. Student Rights and support:
● Continuing to advocate for an confidential (NDA) mediator for students which is an Ombuds, dedicated ride-share spots, advocating for honors students to have an elite tutor for college essays to selective colleges, the return of a coffee vending machine and better food options throughout the college to discuss with Brian our cafeteria manager, nighttime options that are healthier, more events with students taking night classes in mind, clubs that support students with disability and your voice to be heard with physical suggestion boxes in campus, if elected I will be there to listen and advocate for you.
● We need your voice for a better community. Thank you for participating in this election.
● Maureen Glynn for 2026-2027 Senator-at-large @maureenglynn555
Rimna Habtom
Greetings,
My name is Rimna Habtom and I am running the for SGA Senator at large for the Bunker Hill Charlestown Campus. I am seeking this role and position of responsibility to not only advocate for the students here at BHCC but to also to be a voice for the voiceless and a voice that uplifts and encourages.
I believe that the student government association should take an active and visible role in the student's life and experiences here at BHCC. Moreover, consistently acting on their actions. SGA should ensure that students, especially those who feel unheard or underrepresented, have a platform where their voices are valued and turned into a meaningful change.
I also believe that SGA is of vital importance in shaping the overall college experience where leadership, participation, and engagement are valued.
For me, SGA extends beyond academics. It reflects the idea that college is not only about getting a degree, it is also about discovering our full potential building confidence and learning how to lead.
I am running for SGA Senator at large because my wish is to make a meaningful impact. I am someone who is big on listening, working together with others, and I am committed to fairness and mutual respect. This role represents a meaningful opportunity for personal growth. With this opportunity presented to me, I would be deeply involved in the Bunker Hill campus community. If granted the position, the opportunity would assist me alongside those around me to grow into a more confident and responsible versions of ourselves in the Bunker Hill Community.
I am someone who values commitment, consistency, meaningful involvement and it would be an honor to carry those values into a leadership role. Being a part of the SGA would allow me to step outside my comfort zone, take on responsibilities and gain real-life experiences in: leadership, collaborative endeavors, and decision making.
What motivates me the most is the chance to be actively engaged in something that requires dedication and purpose. I am someone who takes great pride in showing up, staying committed and putting effort into the things that I care about. The position is meaningful to me because with it aligns with my personal goals of growth, discipline, and becoming involved in shaping my college experience; rather than simply observing it.
If elected, I will approach this role with seriousness and dedication. I will prioritize being reliable, being present and fully engaged in all responsibilities that comes with being a SGA senator at large. I want to use this opportunity to develop leadership skills, build confidence in my voice, and learn how to contribute in meaningful ways within an organization.
Overall, I am running because I believe this role is an important step in my college journey, personal maturity and academic development. I am committed to growth, responsibility, and making the most out of the opportunities available to me at Bunker Hill. Serving as a Senator at Large would not only be an honor but also a valuable experience that helps, assists, and aid me in shaping who I: can, may, and will become .
Thank you for your consideration- Rimna Habtom
Emre Kayadibi
What I think the SGA should be doing?
I think the SGA should be the group that makes life at BHCC easier for the rest of us. Most students here are busy we’re trying to pass classes, get through labs, and manage everything else outside of school. SGA should be the bridge between us and the people running the college. Its job is to make sure that when decisions are made about our campus, they actually make sense for the students who spend all day here.
What I’m going to do if I get elected?
I’m not going to make a bunch of huge promises I can’t keep. What I can promise is that I’ll be reliable. If I have office hours, I’ll actually be there. If there’s a special project I’m assigned to, I’m going to put the work in to finish it correctly. I’m good at staying organized and I’m used to dealing with technical problems, so I plan to bring that mindset to the SGA. I just want to make sure that student concerns are taken seriously and that we’re actually seeing improvements on our campus.
Why am I running?
I’m running because I spend most of my week on campus. Between my Computer Science classes and staying on top of my coursework, I’m constantly using the labs and the common areas. I’ve reached a point where I don’t just want to be a student who shows up and leaves. I want to help improve the place where I spend my time.
I’m interested in the idea of reducing friction. We all have enough stress with our classes and personal lives; the college itself shouldn't add to that stress. I want to be part of the team that identifies those annoying hurdles like confusing processes or outdated info and works to smooth them out so we can all just focus on our goals.
Phyoe Ko Ko
My name is Phyoe Ko Ko, but call me Kevin, and I am running for the position of Senator at Large in the Student Government Association at Bunker Hill Community College. I am currently a student here, working through the challenges and experiences that come with college life, adapting to a new environment, and building my future step by step. These experiences have shaped how I see student life and why I want to take a more active role in representing students.
I believe the Student Government Association should serve as a strong and reliable voice for all students. Its role should not be limited to organizing events or holding meetings but should focus on truly representing student concerns and improving the overall student experience. SGA should act as a bridge between students and the college administration, making sure that student opinions are not only heard but taken seriously when decisions are made. Many students have ideas, concerns, and frustrations, but they do not always know where to express them or feel that their voices will lead to real change. I want SGA to help close that gap.
In addition, I believe SGA should work toward building a stronger sense of community at BHCC. College can feel isolating at times, especially for students who are new, commuting, or still adjusting to academic life in a new country or system. A strong student government should help create spaces where students feel included, supported, and connected to each other. This can be done through better communication, more student engagement, and initiatives that reflect what students want and need.
I am running for Senator at Large because I want to contribute to improving student life in a meaningful way. Throughout my time as a student, I have experienced both motivation and difficulty. Like many others, I have had moments where managing time, staying focused, and keeping up with responsibilities felt overwhelming. These experiences have helped me understand that student life is not just about academics, it is also about balance, support, and having the right environment to succeed.
I also understand that many students may not always feel comfortable speaking up or may not know how to bring their concerns forward. That is why I want to help create a more open and approachable student government. Students should feel that SGA is accessible, not distant. They should feel that their ideas matter, whether it is about academic support, campus facilities, student activities, or communication improvements.
If elected, I hope to contribute in several important ways. First, I want to focus on listening to students more actively. This means encouraging feedback, creating opportunities for students to share their thoughts, and making sure their voices are represented in discussions within SGA. Listening is the foundation of effective leadership, and I want to make sure students feel heard.
Second, I want to support improvements that directly benefit student life. This includes academic support systems, clearer communication between students and administration, and initiatives that help students feel more organized and supported in their studies. Even small improvements can make a big difference when it comes to student success and confidence.
Third, I want to help strengthen student engagement and community at BHCC. Many students are focused on classes and responsibilities, but I believe having a stronger sense of connection to the college can make the experience more meaningful. I want to support efforts that bring students together in simple, inclusive, and accessible ways.
Overall, I see SGA as a responsibility rather than a title. It is about representing people fairly, staying consistent, and being willing to act on what students need. If given the opportunity to serve as Senator at Large, I will do my best to represent students honestly, listen carefully to their concerns, and work toward making BHCC a better place for everyone.
Thank you for your consideration,
Kevin
Sumika Lama
My name is Sumika Lama, and I am running for the position of Senator-at-Large in the Student Government Association at Bunker Hill Community College.
I believe SGA should have an important role in student life at BHCC because it should represent students and help their voices be heard. SGA should not only be about leadership positions. It should also be about listening to students and helping make the college feel more connected. Many students at BHCC have different experiences. Some students commute. Some students work. Some students are new to college, and some are international students. Because of this, I think SGA should help make student life more welcoming and easier for everyone to be part of.
I am running for office because I want to become more involved at BHCC and contribute to the student community. As an international student, I understand how it can feel to be new and not fully familiar with everything on campus yet. Sometimes students want to participate, but they may not know where to start, or they may feel unsure. I am also still learning more about SGA, but I am willing to learn, listen, and do my best if I am elected.
If elected as Senator-at-Large, I hope to contribute by listening to students and bringing their concerns forward. I want to support ideas that help students feel included, informed, and connected to campus life. I also hope to represent students who may feel shy, new, or unsure about getting involved because I understand that feeling too.
Even though I am not familiar with everything yet, I will take this role seriously. I am responsible, open-minded, and willing to work with others. I want to contribute in whatever way I can to make BHCC a better and more welcoming place for students. As Senator-at-Large, I would try my best to be a voice for students and help make student life at BHCC more supportive and inclusive.
Arturo Li
My name is Arturo Li, and I am running for Senator-at-Large for the Student Government Association (SGA) at Bunker Hill Community College.
I believe the SGA should serve as a clear, active link between students and the college administration. Its role in student life should go beyond planning events, it should advocate for students’ academic, financial, and social concerns while making sure student voices are heard in decisions that affect them. It should serve as a direct link between students, faculty, and administration. SGA actions should focus on transparency, accessibility, and practical action. Students should know who represents them, how to raise concerns, and what is being done in response.
I am running for this position because I want to be part of the association that helps strengthen communication between students and leadership. As a member of the BHCC community, I have seen how organized student action can lead to real changes, and I want to contribute by listening carefully, identifying gaps, and working consistently to address them. My goal is to help create an environment where all students, regardless of background, feel supported and able to succeed.
If elected, I hope to contribute by being present, responsive, and solution oriented. I will work to strengthen advocacy efforts, improve awareness of SGA initiatives, and support club development through responsible resource distribution. I will advocate for initiatives that improve academic support, campus engagement, and access to resources.
BHCC is a diverse and driven community. SGA should reflect that energy by being organized, transparent, and genuinely student-centered. As Senator-at-Large, I will work to ensure that student concerns are not only heard but acted upon.
Christelle Limage
Hello, my name is Christelle Limage. I am running for the position of Senator-at-Large in BHCC Student Government Association. I am running for the position of Senator-at-Large because I am committed to being active and reliable voice for students at Bunker Hill Community College. As a student, I understand how important it is to feel supported, heard, and represented. I believe that the Student Government Association (SGA) plays a key role in improving student life by creating opportunities, addressing concerns, and building a stronger sense of community on campus.
As an immigrant from Haiti, my journey has shaped my perspective and strengthened my determination to succeed and contribute to my community. Adjusting to a new country and academic system has helped me develop resilience, adaptability, and a deep appreciation for opportunities in education. It also allows me to better understand the challenges that many students, especially international and immigrant students may face. This perspective motivates me to be a supportive and inclusive representative within SGA.
Before coming to the United States, I was actively involved in volunteering with an organization called Conscious Women for Social Integration (FECIS) in Haiti. Through this experience, I supported initiatives that helped individuals, including people with disabilities, and contributed to programs that empowered youth through practical skills such as knitting, makeup, and braiding. This experience taught me the importance of service, compassion, and community engagement.
This Spring semester, I started volunteering with the International Student Association (ISA), where I have been actively involved in supporting student activities and engaging with students from diverse backgrounds. This experience has strengthened my communication, teamwork, and organizational skills while deepening my understanding of the importance of inclusion on campus.
As a candidate for Senator-at-Large, I understand that this role requires dedication, responsibility, and consistency. I am prepared to attend all SGA meetings, maintain weekly office hours, collaborate with SGA leadership on special projects, and serve on campus-wide committees.
If elected, I will be approachable, attentive, and proactive. I want students to feel comfortable sharing their ideas and concerns, and I will work to ensure their voices are heard. I am especially committed to promoting student engagement, diversity, and access to resources that support academic and personal success.
I would be honored to serve as a Senator-at-Large and represent the voice of my peers.
Thank you.
Po-Chun Lin
My name is Po-Chun Lin, and I am running for the position of Student Government Association (SGA) Senator-at-Large at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC).
I believe that as a member of the SGA, I should serve as a bridge between BHCC students and the college administration. SGA not only represents student voices but must also actively advocate for the needs of the entire student body. We should ensure that every student — regardless of background or ethnicity — feels like they are being heard, supported, and included in our campus community. Especially at a diverse institution like BHCC, SGA should make student life step away from or even go beyond academics. This means students should have equal access to resources, opportunities for engagement, and a sense of belonging. SGA is a leadership group dedicated to improve communication, organizing meaningful events, and promoting policies that enhance both academic success and student well-being.
I am running for office because I want to contribute to a stronger, more unified, and more supportive student community — one where students feel seen, valued, and genuinely connected to one another. As an international student, I understand the challenges many students like me face when arriving in a completely new city for the first time. We must adapt to a new environment, navigate unfamiliar academic systems, and find our place on campus, often on our own. These experiences have given me a unique perspective and a strong motivation to advocate for students who share similar experiences. I want to make sure that every student feels welcome, has equal access to opportunities, and that no one feels left out or left behind — regardless of background or ability.
If I get the opportunity to serve, I hope to contribute in several meaningful ways. First, I aim to improve communication between students and the SGA by encouraging more channels for feedback, such as surveys, open forums, and community discussions. Because I believe Knowledge is the first step toward opportunity. I would work diligently to ensure that no student is left behind, and I would commit to making information more visible and accessible.
As Senator-at-Large, I will assist other SGA officers in planning and executing projects, step into officer roles if vacancies arise as appointed by the President, attend all SGA-hosted events and monthly college-wide committee meetings, and maintain weekly office hours.
Second, I would focus on supporting student engagement by promoting events and initiatives that bring people together — whether through cultural activities, academic workshops, or networking opportunities. I believe that a vibrant campus life helps students feel more connected and motivated.
Third, as a candidate for SGA Senator-at-Large, I am committed to representing student perspectives at the institutional level. This role requires responsibility, professionalism, punctuality, and effective communication with college leadership. I am prepared to listen carefully, think critically, and advocate for decisions that genuinely benefit the student body as well.
Finally, I value collaboration and accountability. If elected, I will work closely with SGA officers, faculty, and staff to ensure our efforts actually create real, meaningful, and positive change. I am committed to being approachable, responsive, and dedicated to serving all BHCC students. Thank you for considering my candidacy. I would be honored to represent you and help make BHCC an even more supportive and engaging community for everyone.
Arthur Lobo
My name is Arthur Lobo, and I am a student at Bunker Hill Community College majoring in Communications and Media Studies. I am running for the position of Senator-at-Large in the Student Government Association because I want to continue building on my leadership experience and play a meaningful role in shaping student life at BHCC.
I currently serve as a Senator-at-Large for the Spring 2026 semester, and this experience has given me valuable insight into how SGA operates and how student voices are represented. Through this role, I have seen firsthand how important it is for student leaders to be active, engaged, and committed to advocating for their peers. Being elected to this position has motivated me to continue serving and to take my involvement to a deeper level.
I believe the Student Government Association should serve as more than just a representative body, it should be an active force that strengthens the overall student experience. SGA should act as a bridge between students and administration, ensuring that student voices are not only heard but also taken seriously in decision-making processes. At the same time, SGA should play a key role in building a sense of community by supporting events, encouraging student involvement, and making campus life more engaging and inclusive. For many students, especially those who commute or balance multiple responsibilities, feeling connected to campus can be challenging. That is why SGA has a responsibility to create opportunities that bring students together and make BHCC feel like a welcoming and supportive environment.
My decision to run for this position is also influenced by my experience volunteering with SGA before being elected. During that time, I was able to observe how ideas are discussed, how decisions are made, and how student concerns are addressed behind the scenes. This experience helped me understand the impact that student leadership can have and encouraged me to take on a more active role within the organization. In addition to my involvement with SGA, I am actively engaged in the Commonwealth Honors Program, theater productions, choir, and other student organizations. These experiences have shown me how valuable student involvement can be, but they have also made me aware that not every student feels comfortable getting involved. As someone who can be naturally reserved, I understand how difficult it can be to speak up or take that first step. This perspective motivates me to represent not only students who are already active, but also those who may feel disconnected or overlooked.
If elected, I hope to contribute by being an active, dependable, and approachable representative. I plan to listen carefully to student concerns and communicate those ideas effectively within SGA. I also want to improve how information is shared with students by strengthening outreach through digital and media platforms, making it easier for students to stay informed about opportunities, events, and resources. With my background in communications and media, I believe I can help make student engagement more effective and accessible.
I am also committed to supporting initiatives that promote inclusion, accessibility, and student well-being. This includes creating environments where students feel comfortable participating and ensuring that different voices and perspectives are represented. I want to work collaboratively with other SGA members to develop ideas that reflect the diverse needs of the student body and contribute to a more connected campus experience.
Overall, my goal is to help create a campus environment where students feel valued, heard, and encouraged to participate. I am committed to continuing my work in SGA and using my experience to make a positive impact. If elected, I will bring dedication, leadership, and a genuine commitment to serving the student body at BHCC.
Mitchello Pierre-Rene
Pleasure to make your acquaintance. My name is Mitchello Pierre-Rene, and I would like to be considered for the senator-at-large position. SGA is a crucial part of the infrastructure at Bunker Hill Community College. It serves as the bridge between students and faculty, as well as between scholars and school resources. I believe SGA gives students the ability to voice their opinions and bring meaningful concerns directly to the school board. When I think of Bunker Hill Community College, I think of progressive ideas and positive changes. A school made for students and shaped by the students, which is why the role of SGA as an entity is crucial.
SGA connects students with resources by encouraging our students to be involved and take the initiative in different programs offered by the school. After all, a building is just a pile of bricks neatly stacked together. It takes culture and community to transform it into something more, into a place worth attending. SGA officers further culture on campus by helping students to partake in campus life through club engagement, fairs, seminars, and other school activities. While also helping guide those of the student body who might need more assistance, whether that be through academics or outside life. We have Single Stop and other similar programs that help supply our students that might be mothers or in less fortunate situations with some basic needs in an effort to continue to encourage attendance.
I want to be a voice for making a strong and lasting impact. Throughout my life, I have had great mentors help keep me motivated, and teachers encourage me to stay steady in my pursuits. I want to be that voice of reason for our student body. I am running a seat on the SGA committee to amplify all those values I’ve described. It is easy to talk about change, but I want to be part of making it happen. I want to be the person students can flag down with questions—someone they can rely on for honest, supportive answers. I am ready to dedicate my time and any resources I have available to further SGA’s reach across the school campus.
I am already familiar with our school community through my work as a peer connector in the Community Connect office. I would like to bring that experience forward and apply the skills I’ve developed to help reach and engage our student body. With the opportunity to serve, I am committed to uplifting our campus community and ensuring that every student feels heard and empowered.
Kim Plaut
My name is Kim Plaut, and I am running for the Student Government Association position of Senator-at-Large.
I am running because I care about our campus community and want to help students learn more about campus life, resources, and the people who can support them. Being an advocate for others always matters to me, and I believe students should know who the key people are at the college and where to go when they have questions or need help.
I also want to be a voice for students who may have a harder time speaking up or knowing how to be heard. This is especially important to me when it comes to students in the disability community. I have been blind since birth, and although I have faced many challenges in life, I have made it my mission to better my life and to help others in similar situations through advocacy. I am also part of Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong, a self-advocacy organization that helps people with disabilities speak up, build leadership skills, and support one another.
Students with disabilities have many strengths, talents, and experiences to share. Even though we may face challenges, those challenges do not stop us from building a future, following our dreams, and contributing to the college community.
I believe the Student Government should make it a goal to help all students feel included, informed, and supported. Students need access to clear and useful information about the college, their rights, their resources, and the opportunities available to them.
If elected as Student Senator, I would work to make sure students’ voices, concerns, and ideas are heard. Our peers matter, and I believe we can work together to make Bunker Hill Community College a better place for current and future students.
Please vote for Kim Plaut for SGA Senator-at-Large so I can help make a difference at Bunker Hill Community College.
Thank you for your consideration.
Kim Plaut
Komang “Rama” Ramawijaya
My name is Komang Ramawijaya (Rama), and I am running for the position of Senator at Large at Bunker Hill Community College.
I believe that the Student Government Association should represent students' voices and perspectives while supporting campus initiatives and helping all students to stay informed and connected to the college. I think the SGA plays an important role in helping students stay aware and updated of what is happening on campus and makes them feel involved in the community.
I am running for this position because I want to become more involved in the college communities and better understand how things work beyond just classrooms and clubs. I also see this as an opportunity to meet more people, hear different perspectives and build stronger connections within the campus where I can learn things and grow as an individual by having an opportunity to be surrounded by people who bring different experiences and perspectives I can learn from.
At the same time, the role Senator at Large gives me the opportunity to actively contribute in a practical way and take part in works that are meaningful. I want to be actively involved in the work the SGA is doing and support the people in it in any way I can. I understand that being in this role is about working with others, including collaborating with other SGA members on projects, taking part in campus wide committees, and maintaining regular office hours. I am ready to contribute where I am needed and take part in the work that supports the community and its goal.
If elected, I would focus on being present and dependable in the role. Maintaining office hours would be a chance to be available and listen to students, while being part of campus wide committees means taking part in discussions and contributing to the work being done on campus. The role also includes working with the SGA leadership on projects, where I would help wherever needed whether that means stepping in where needed and doing what’s required that comes with the role.
I aim to approach this role with a willingness to contribute where it matters while staying consistent and present throughout the term. I value being reliable and accountable, and I believe showing up and participating actively is what makes a difference in a role like this.
Overall, I see this position as both a responsibility and an opportunity. It is a chance for me to grow, to be involved and to contribute to the college community in a meaningful way. I am ready to take the role seriously and make the most out of the experience.
Thank you for your consideration.
Nick Ramos
Hello, my name is Nick Ramos and I am running for Senator at Large in the Student Government Association for the Fall 2026 semester. I am a first gen political science student currently in my first semester here at Bunker Hill, and just like many of my classmates, I balance school, commuting, and real responsibilities outside of class. Because of that, I understand the everyday challenges BHCC students face and I believe SGA should play a stronger, more active role in addressing them.
To me, the role of the student government is to make student life easier, safer, and more accessible. SGA should be the bridge between students and the college administration bringing forward the issues that affect us the most and working toward reasonable, realistic solutions. At a community college, where students are often here for only a short time, SGA must focus on improvements that students can feel immediately, not just long term ideas that never materialize in our college experience.
I am running for office because I want to advocate for changes that directly impact our students daily lives. One of my top priorities is improving shuttle bus reliability and increasing nighttime frequency because many students rely on the shuttle to get home safely, and inconsistent service can leave people stranded, forcing them to take the orange line further to their homes or forced to walk long distances late at night. Reliable transportation should not be a luxury, it is a basic need for our commuter students who rely on it and I want to work with campus services to make it more dependable and reliable.
In addition to improving transportation on campus, I want to expand event transportation to other campuses. BHCC currently offers shuttle trips to local public universities like UMass Boston and UMass Lowell, but many students are interested in exploring a wider range of transfer options. I hope to advocate for shuttle supported campus visit days. Including the possibility of class shadowing at schools such as Northeastern, Boston University, Boston College, MIT, Harvard, and UMass Amherst. These visits would allow students to experience different campuses firsthand, meet department representatives, and better understand the environments they would want to transfer into. Access to these opportunities should not be limited to a small group. I feel that every BHCC student deserves the chance to explore their full range of transfer options.
In addition to these larger goals, I want to address some smaller but noteworthy issues that affect students every day. One example of this is the vending machines on campus, which often display “out of stock” messages even when items are clearly available. While this may seem like a minor issue it reflects a larger need for better maintenance and communication across campus services. Reliable vending machines matter not only for the students rushing between classes, but also for the parents who bring their children to campus. If parents forget to pack a snack or if their child becomes hungry unexpectedly, having functional and accurately stocked vending machines can make a big difference. I want to work with the appropriate departments to ensure these machines are properly stocked, updated, and reliable for everyone who uses them.
I believe that BHCC should explore the opportunity of allowing our students to use their SNAP benefits on campus, especially since the college promotes food aid resources like SNAP. Many students rely on SNAP, and being able to use those benefits at BHCC would support food security and reduce financial stress and potentially make our college more profitable.
Another idea I hope to introduce is optional year‑based student group chats. For example, Class of 2028 or Class of 2029. These groups would allow students to share tutoring resources, job opportunities, transfer information, and general academic support. Community colleges can sometimes feel disconnected and this would help students support each other outside of formal advising.
Finally, I want to explore the creation of a Language Lounge which would be a dedicated space where students can practice languages, exchange cultures, and build communities. I think this is a good idea because there are some languages that we do not have tutoring for. This can be a benefit for languages that aren’t regularly spoken or represented at the language lab. BHCC is one of the most diverse campuses in Boston. We should have spaces that reflect and celebrate that diversity. A Language Lounge would help give students a place to connect, learn from one another, and strengthen our campus community.
If I am elected, I can bring consistency, communication, and community to the center of SGA’s work. I will listen to our communities concerns, advocate for practical solutions, and work collaboratively with faculty and staff to make real differences. I am running because I believe BHCC students deserve a voice, and I want to help make that voice heard and make sure every student feels confident in their studies and respected.
Thank you for considering my candidacy. I would be honored to represent you in the Student Government Association.
Candidates for SGA Senator at Large for the Chelsea Campus (One Position)
Amos P. Kamada
My name is Amos Kamada, an engineering student and the president of the BHCC Chess Club. I am running for the Senator-at-Large for the Chelsea Campus position in the Student Government Association (SGA). I am running because I believe every student deserves to feel heard, supported, and effectively represented on campus. As a student, I understand the importance of having a voice in decisions that shape our academic and campus experience.
As a student at BHCC, I understand that many students face challenges on campus, such as limited academic support and access to resources needed for success in advanced courses. These difficulties can make it harder for students to succeed both academically and socially. While there are many challenges students experience, these issues alone are enough to motivate me to run for the Senator-at-large position. I want to help address these concerns and work toward creating a more supportive and resourceful environment for all students. As Senator-at-Large, I will work to strengthen support systems on campus so that every student has a fair opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential.
To address these challenges, I will work closely with the SGA President and Vice President to create platforms where students feel comfortable expressing their concerns and know their voices are heard. As Senator-at-Large, I will advocate for increased access to academic resources and clearer information to support student success. I will also push for expanded tutoring services, especially for advanced courses, to better assist students who are struggling. With your support, I am committed to turning these ideas into real improvements on our campus.
I believe that SGA leaders are meant to serve students and act as a strong voice between the student body and the administration. Students need a leader who takes responsibility seriously, listens actively, and ensures that their concerns are heard and addressed. I bring these qualities through my commitment to responsibility, my ability to listen, and my passion for serving others. I am dedicated to creating a campus environment where every student feels supported, valued, and well represented.
In conclusion, my name is Amos Kamada, and I am running for the Senator-at-Large for the Chelsea Campus position in the Student Government Association. I am running because I believe students deserve strong representation, better access to academic support, and a voice that is heard by the administration. If elected, I will work to advocate for student needs, improve communication between students and leadership, and help create a more supportive campus environment. I respectfully ask for your support and your vote so that I can serve as a dedicated and responsible representative for all students.
Candidates for Student Trustee (One Position)
Andre Lopes Ferreira
My name is Andre Lopes Ferreira, and I am running for the position of Student Trustee at Bunker Hill Community College. In this role, I would represent BHCC students on the College’s Board of Trustees, bringing student perspectives directly into the conversations and decisions that shape our institution’s future.
I am a Computer Science student, Vice President of the Portuguese Speakers Club, and an active member of the Global Awareness and Diplomacy Club. These experiences have helped me grow as a leader and collaborator within our diverse campus community. I speak Spanish and Portuguese, and I am proficient in English, which allows me to connect with students in the languages they are most comfortable using and better understand the needs of our multilingual community.
I believe the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Student Trustee should serve as strong advocates for Student Life at BHCC. SGA should be the main channel for gathering student concerns, ideas, and feedback, while the Student Trustee carries those priorities into Board-level discussions where policies, budgets, and long-term strategies are decided. In this way, SGA and the Student Trustee play complementary roles: SGA organizes and amplifies student voices, and the Student Trustee ensures those voices are present at the highest decision-making table.
I see SGA’s role in Student Life as promoting transparency, supporting academic and personal success, and expanding opportunities for students to participate in leadership and governance. Whether the issue is access to academic support, mental health resources, financial stability, or a sense of belonging, SGA should work closely with college leadership so that student needs shape the decisions being made.
I am running for Student Trustee because I want to ensure that the real experiences of BHCC students are clearly represented when key decisions are made. Many students at Bunker Hill balance work, family responsibilities, immigration journeys, language learning, and other challenges alongside their education. These perspectives must be at the center of conversations about scheduling, support services, affordability, and campus climate.
My background in computer science has trained me to analyze complex information, think systematically, and develop practical, data-informed solutions. At the same time, my involvement in student organizations has strengthened my ability to listen, understand multiple perspectives, and advocate thoughtfully for others.
If elected, I hope to contribute in several key ways. First, I want to strengthen the connection between the student body, SGA, and the Board of Trustees by making it easier for students to understand what the Board does and how its decisions affect their daily lives. This includes gathering student input, sharing it with the Board, and communicating outcomes back to students.
Second, I want to advocate for policies that support student success and equity, including expanded access to academic support services, clearer communication about available resources, and initiatives that help students complete their programs, transfer, or advance in their careers. As a multilingual student, I also want to support international and multilingual communities, ensuring language is a bridge, not a barrier.
Third, I want to uplift the diversity of BHCC’s student body by collaborating with clubs and organizations across campus. These groups create spaces where students feel seen and heard, and I want their voices reflected in Board discussions about programs, services, and campus life.
I understand that the role of Student Trustee requires responsibility, preparation, and a genuine commitment to service. I will stay informed, attend meetings, and actively engage with students and campus partners. I will strive to be approachable and accessible so that students know their voices matter.
Ultimately, I believe that when students have a strong, informed voice in college governance, the entire BHCC community becomes stronger, more responsive, and more student-centered. I would be honored to earn your trust and your vote to represent you as Student Trustee of Bunker Hill Community College.
Sivchou Reth
My name is Sivchou Reth, or you might know me as Siv. I'm running for Student Trustee because I want to ensure that student voices are genuinely represented in the decisions that shape our experience at Bunker Hill Community College.
I believe the Student Government Association should play a meaningful and active role in student life at BHCC. A strong SGA builds a stronger student community- one where students feel supported, informed, and empowered.
My decision to run comes from my experiences both inside and outside the classroom. As a student at BHCC and previous Vice President of Communications, I’ve balanced academics, leadership, and work, and I understand the challenges many of us face. I’ve been involved in the SGA Communications Team, where I’ve helped share information with the student body, and I serve as a mentor with Science Club for Girls, where I guide young students in STEM. These roles have strengthened my ability to communicate, take initiative, and advocate for others.
If elected as Student Trustee, I hope to bring a student-centered perspective to the Board of Trustees. I want to improve communication between students and leadership so that decisions are more transparent and inclusive. I also want to advocate for increased access to academic resources, stronger support for student organizations, and more opportunities for students to grow both academically and professionally. Additionally, I am passionate about sustainability and innovation, and I hope to support initiatives that move BHCC forward in those areas.
Thank you for your consideration.
Aaron Salcedo
To the Student Association,
As the Paralegal Club President, I’ve lead the recreation of our club’s founding document nearly 2 years ago from scratch—allowing for a clearer and fairer constitution that will be able to serve future BHCC Paralegal Clubs long after I graduate. As part of that constitution, our mission has been “to foster student’s legal knowledge by offering educational and career building experiences”, and in celebration of that goal, I’m proud to share how I’ve successfully partnered with the head librarian of our library to secure several of the latest official copies of various paralegal certification manuals by which ANY student will be able to confidently supplement their education, regardless of their major, and check-out these manuals in prep for taking their respective certification exams to legally become certified paralegals in the commonwealth of Massachusetts, if they so wish, as early as the fall semester of 2026!
Additionally, I’ve partnered with the director of the paralegal program and school’s IT department to add critical missing legal disclosing language to the paralegal program’s online landing page, which has been fully endorsed by the BHCC Paralegal Advisory Board, of which I am also a sitting Student Member, which was ordained as “a great achievement” in regards to helping the school maintain is American Bar Association accreditation regarding an upcoming audit of our program.
What I hope to achieve within the Student Government Association is being a part of shaping the principles by which the SGA is founded on and how it pertains to both student life in academia and how it transfers into the real world as professionals in the field. As students, WE are the foundational cog piece in how society is shaped for a better future, and it’s through the very principles of ethics, accountability, duty, and responsibility that encompass many of the core values we should expect to see in all bodies that govern us.
Lastly, it’s through these many goals and achievements I’ve earned, both big and small, that I announce my candidacy for SGA Student Trustee by humbly asking you for your vote!
Thank you all,
Aaron Salcedo
Paralegal Club President & Student Member of the BHCC Paralegal Advisory Board
Prajina Shrestha
My name is Prajina Shrestha, a second-year student pursuing an Associate Degree in Finance, and I am seeking to serve as your Student Trustee at Bunker Hill Community College.
At BHCC, about 62% of students are enrolled part-time, balancing school with work, family, and financial responsibilities. Our community includes first-year students, returning students, and international students like myself navigating a new academic system. Yet many systems are still designed as if students have unlimited time—we don’t. This disconnect creates real challenges, and it is where strong student leadership is needed.
As a student worker in Admissions, I regularly speak with prospective and current students who ask important questions: Is the college affordable? Are there flexible class options? What resources are available to support me? These questions reflect what students truly need to succeed.
Students rely on resources such as advising, tutoring, financial aid, mental health services, and career support. However, many are unaware of these services or struggle to access them due to time constraints or unclear communication. Many students also do not have the time or opportunity to consistently advocate for themselves, which can lead to decisions that feel disconnected from student realities.
Student Trustee is not just a title—it is a responsibility to ensure that our college is built for the students, by the students, and reflective of the students it serves. If elected, I will serve as a strong bridge between students and leadership, representing you at Board of Trustees and SGA meetings and ensuring your voices are heard early in decision-making.
I will advocate for more flexible scheduling, clearer communication, and stronger, more accessible support systems. I am committed to making sure resources are not only available, but visible, accessible, and effective for all students.
Every student deserves a system that works for them—not one they have to struggle to fit into. If elected, I will work to make student voices and student needs central to every decision that impacts our community.
Thank you for your consideration.
Rabab Traiba
My name is Rabab Traiba, and I am running for the position of SGA Student Trustee at Bunker Hill Community College.
The student Government Association (SGA) should act as a bridge between the students and administration. Also, the SGA should represent students' interests and voices on the faculty committee and the Board of Trustees. Adding to that, SGA should actively act on students' needs seeking meaningful change in student life, that improves student’s academic success, and campus engagement. For SGA, should help succeed in student organizations, like planning events in campus for students to feel engaged and engaged, providing support for clubs. SGA has the responsibility to make students feel heard, valued, and supported, making sure that students' concerns are addressed through actions, and collaboration with college leadership.
I am running for this position because I am passionate about leadership and making an impact in others’ lives in my college community. Being someone who’s been involved in different roles at Bunker Hill Community College, made me gain the experience of working with diverse groups of students and being able to see the multiple challenges within our campus. During my time experiencing different challenges with students inspired me to think beyond supporting groups that I am assigned too, and instead focus on bringing new ideas, and things that have more lasting impact across the entire college. I want to ensure that those challenges aren’t neglected, instead of trying to work on them through policies. I am committed to being the voice of students who feel unvalued, unheard, and unseen, then try to create opportunities for students to get involved in campus.
If elected as Student Trustee, I will serve as a strong, accountable voice for students on the Board of Trustees at Bunker Hill Community College. This is the only position on the Board elected directly by the student body, and I will use it to ensure that student perspectives are clearly represented in every major decision. I will actively gather input from students, bring those perspectives into Board discussions, and communicate decisions back to the student body with clarity and transparency. My focus is on ensuring that policies and priorities reflect the real needs and experiences of students across the College.
I am committed to advancing BHCC’s mission by supporting inclusive and affordable access to higher education, strengthening student success, and contributing to partnerships that expand opportunities for students both during and after their time at the College. I will approach this role with a clear understanding that student voice is essential to achieving these goals. I will work to strengthen connections between students, administrators, and trustees by creating consistent channels for dialogue and accountability. This means not only listening, but following through—bringing forward informed, actionable perspectives that contribute to thoughtful decision-making. This role requires clarity, responsibility, and persistence. I am prepared to represent students with focus, integrity, and purpose.
I am ready to represent the student body with purpose. My goal is simple: to bring students' needs and voices from the body to the board. I would be honored to serve as your SGA Student Trustee and work toward building a long-lasting impact, and more supportive BHCC Community.
