Things They Carried Away: A Visual Memoir of Leaving and Loss, Endurance and Self-Discovery remembers those who were lost at sea during the emigration of thousands of Cubans to the U.S. during the 1990s. It honors those who arrived safely, but carried a deep sense of loss. We are asked: When people have to leave home, what can they and do take with them?
