Application Deadline

The application deadline for the Fall Start (September) is June 2, 2027.

*Students can only apply to one selective program per term.

Program Option

This is a full-time, in-person program held at the Chelsea Campus and requires a full-time commitment.

First Year

Fall Semester: 6 hours of classroom instruction and 4 hours of lab per week
Spring Semester: 8 hours of classroom instruction and 16 hours of clinical per week
Summer Semester: 32 hours of clinical per week, with two class days consisting of 2 hours each

Second Year

Fall Semester: 2 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of clinical per week
Spring Semester: 2 hours of in-person classroom instruction per week, along with a web-based case study course, and 24 hours of clinical per week

This program prepares students to work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel to deliver patient care in the operating room. To handle the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure; to understand the procedures being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon. Admissions Requirements

High School Requirement

Submit a proof of High School Diploma, GED, and or HISET
A copy of a high school diploma or an official GED/HiSet certificate may be submitted in person with a photo ID or may be sent via email directly from a school official.
International high school diplomas and transcripts outside of the US may need an official translation and evaluation.

Required Prerequisites Courses (All grades must be a C or higher)

MAT-097 Foundations of Algebra
- Complete the math placement test and place higher than MAT 097
BIO-108 Human Biology/Lab
- Alternatively, BIO 105 or BIO 195 will also fulfill this requirement

*Complete the Accuplacer English placement test and place higher than ENG-095, Writing Skills II. This is required before you can take ENG-111 in your first semester.

*All Science courses must be 10 years prior to the first day of class.

*Students must maintain a grade of B- or better in all surgical technology courses.

Mandatory Surgical Technology Information Session

Applicants must attend a Health Careers Information session. The information session is valid for 1 year from the application deadline. If you are more than 15 minutes late, your attendance will not be counted, and you will have to attend another in-person session.

College

We will accept unofficial college transcripts for application review. However, if you are admitted, you are required to submit official transcripts. Failure to provide official documentation will result in withdrawal from the program. View our transcript policy on the bottom of the Admissions homepage

Social Security Number Requirement

An active Social Security Number (SSN) is mandatory to participate in the clinicals for the BHCC Surgical Technology program. Please be aware that an SSN is also a strict requirement for maintaining a Surgical Technology license in the state of Massachusetts. Without an SSN, students will not be eligible to complete clinical placements or obtain licensure. You must have a valid SSN 2-4 weeks before your clinical rotation begins.

Immunizations & Physical Exam Requirement

If accepted, failure to meet the health/immunization requirements deadline by the date on the acceptance letter will result in removal from the program. Learn more about clinical placement requirements.

CORI/SORI Background Check Process

All Surgical Technology Students must complete the CORI background check process. This will be completed during orientation, and YOU MUST bring the required documents with you. A valid form of ID or a clear photocopy of a valid ID, such as a driver’s license or passport. A copy of the ID will be submitted along with the CORI form.
