Oldren Romero’s Things They Carried Away: A Visual Memoir of Leaving and Loss, Endurance and Self-Discovery remembers those who were lost at sea during the emigration of thousands of Cubans to the U.S. during the 1990s. It honors those who arrived safely, but carried a deep sense of loss. We are asked: When people have to leave home, what can they and do take with them?

Bold, experimental, and extravagant, livres d’artiste (artist books) revolutionized the book as an art form at the turn of the 20th century. This exhibition introduces the imaginative world of Spanish printmaking and book design through extraordinary works by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, and Juan Gris.
Art of the Americas Permanent Collection
The Art of the Americas Wing brings together hundreds of works made throughout North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean by artists from many cultures and nations. Shaped by global contexts of migration, war, commerce, politics, and cultural exchange, the works on view hold many stories and reflect a range of ideas about the Americas and Americanness—as a place, an identity, and an aspiration.
