BHCC Receives State Grant to Expand Workforce Training in High-Demand Health Care Careers

Tuesday, October 20, 2026

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) received $105,052 through the Massachusetts Training Resources and Internships Network (TRAIN) grant program, part of a $1.5 million statewide investment Governor Maura Healey announced this week to expand workforce training at all 15 Massachusetts community colleges. The funding will support new training programs at BHCC in Dental Assisting, EKG Technician, and Phlebotomy — fields facing persistent hiring demand across Greater Boston's health care sector.

The grant will help BHCC open doors for adults who are long-term unemployed, underemployed, or entering the workforce for the first time, providing a direct path to workforce readiness training and industry-recognized credentials. Each program will pair technical instruction with career-readiness coaching, job placement support, and wraparound services to help students stay enrolled and finish their programs, addressing real-life barriers, from transportation and childcare to scheduling, that too often stand between a student and a diploma.

Announced during Massachusetts STEM Week, the TRAIN grant reflects the Healey-Driscoll Administration's broader push to expand access to education and workforce training statewide, building on initiatives such as tuition-free community college. For BHCC, the TRAIN grant is an opportunity to do what the College does best: meet students where they are and connect them with good jobs that strengthen their families and the region's health care workforce.
