BHCC Helps Lead New National Student Success Initiative

Tuesday, October 27, 2026

Bunker Hill Community College President Pam Eddinger is helping lead a new national effort to strengthen student success and demonstrate the value of higher education.

People at the Student Success Initiative eventLaunched on October 22 by five major higher education associations, The National Student Success Project brings together more than 50 colleges and universities around five commitments: delivering strong value for students’ investment in education; providing clear and affordable pathways to degrees and credentials; advancing academic excellence; preparing students for careers through real-world experiences and guidance; and creating supportive campus communities that foster civil dialogue and respect.

“At community colleges, these concepts are core foundations of what we do,” Eddinger told the audience at a launch event hosted by the Association of Community College Trustees. “But no sector of higher education can do this work alone. In these turbulent times, we must stand shoulder to shoulder to reclaim the public purpose of higher education, to strengthen our communities and our nation.”

Eddinger serves on the project’s national advisory board, helping shape the initiative and its commitments. She is one of five community college presidents on the board. The initiative comes as students, families and policymakers increasingly scrutinize the value of a college education. Participating institutions will show how they are putting the five commitments into practice, with examples of effective approaches shared nationally.

For BHCC, the project reflects work already central to the College’s mission: providing affordable access to higher education, creating clear pathways to credentials and careers, and building the systems and supports that help students persist and succeed.

The project is a collaboration among the American Association of Community Colleges, American Association of State Colleges and Universities, American Council on Education, Association of American Universities and Association of Public and Land-grant Universities, with support from the Strada Education Foundation.
