BHCC, Suffolk University Formalize Transfer Partnership at May 12 Signing Event
Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) and Suffolk University formally launched a new joint admissions and transfer partnership during a signing event on Tuesday, May 12, at Suffolk University. This partnership makes the pathway from community college to a four-year degree easier, better supported, and more career-focused.
The agreement establishes a streamlined pathway for BHCC students to earn bachelor’s degrees at Suffolk, including joint admission to both institutions and guaranteed acceptance for qualifying students who complete transferable coursework.
Leaders from both institutions gathered on Suffolk’s downtown campus to mark the collaboration, with Suffolk President Marisa Kelly and BHCC President Pam Eddinger signing the agreement. The initiative builds on both schools’ shared commitment to expanding access to higher education and improving outcomes for transfer students in Greater Boston.
Under the program, participating students will have access to coordinated advising, fee waivers, scholarship opportunities, and Suffolk campus resources while enrolled at BHCC. Additional support includes a dedicated transfer admissions contact and a $3,500 Career Summer Stipend for unpaid internships or research experiences
“This program removes barriers for students and creates a clear, supported path to completing a four-year degree,” President Kelly said, emphasizing Suffolk’s mission to expand educational opportunity.
President Eddinger noted that the partnership strengthens students’ ability to pursue their academic goals with confidence. “By creating a stronger transfer pathway to Suffolk University, we are opening doors for students to continue their education and contribute their talents to Boston’s future,” she said.
BHCC transfer student Melani Matrina said she visited more than a dozen schools but kept returning to Suffolk because she felt a strong sense of community. “I will always be grateful to the advisors and mentors who helped me find the right place and believe I belonged here,” she said.
BHCC, one of Massachusetts’ largest community colleges serving about 16,000 students annually, will be a key pipeline to Suffolk under the new agreement and will expand opportunities for Boston-area students seeking affordable, accessible paths to four-year degrees.
