BHCC Celebrates Class of 2026 at Nursing Pinning Ceremony
Wednesday, June 3, 2026
Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) honored the achievements of its Registered Nursing Program graduates at the Spring 2026 Pinning Ceremony on the College’s Charlestown Campus. The event marked a significant milestone as students transitioned into professional nurses, joining a tradition dating back to Florence Nightingale.
Family members, faculty, and friends gathered to celebrate graduates from both the day and alternative cohorts, recognizing not only their academic accomplishments but also the resilience, compassion, and teamwork that defined their journey.
“Today is not simply about completing a program. It's about recognizing your dedication, perseverance, and compassion,” said Kristen Wenger, Senior Director of Nurse Education. “The pin you receive reflects your commitment to serve others, to advocate for patients, and to uphold the values of the profession with integrity and heart.”
Throughout the ceremony, speakers highlighted the remarkable determination of the Class of 2026, many of whom balanced rigorous coursework with full-time jobs, family responsibilities, and personal challenges.
Student speakers from both cohorts emphasized the deep sense of community formed during the program.
“Two years ago, we were all strangers… and now, we're our own little nursing family, each of us pushing each other when the work felt impossible,” said Dilan Herrera, representing the day program.
Kyle Manley, speaking on behalf of the alternative cohort, highlighted the perseverance that carried the class forward, saying, “Somewhere between clinicals and exams, we became nurses. We learned to think critically under pressure, to advocate for patients, and, most importantly, to persevere.”
Both speakers also acknowledged the role of family, friends, and faculty in supporting students through the program’s demands.
The pinning ceremony marks the symbolic transition from student to practicing nurse. Each graduate received the BHCC nursing pin, signifying completion of the program and entry into the profession. Graduates also recited the Nightingale Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to ethical practice, patient care, and lifelong learning.
The ceremony included a special tribute to longtime faculty member Donna Bishop, who was recognized for more than 40 years of service in nursing education. Known for her expertise, mentorship, and dedication to student success, Bishop has made a lasting impact on generations of nurses and the BHCC community.
As graduates prepare for the next step, passing the NCLEX licensure exam, they are encouraged to carry forward the values instilled during their education.
“Nursing is not about perfection. It is about perseverance, humility, compassion, and showing up, even when it gets hard,” Wenger said.
“Congratulations, Class of 2026—we finally did it.”
