Bunker Hill Students to Benefit from New Neighborhood Jobs Trust Investment

The City of Boston has awarded $1.3 million in Neighborhood Jobs Trust (NJT) funding to 12 community-based organizations that provide workforce training, education, and employment support to Boston residents. Announced by Mayor Michelle Wu and the Office of Workforce Development, the funding is expected to serve nearly 400 residents and leverage an additional $3.3 million in support for workforce development initiatives citywide.
A portion of the funding will directly support students at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC). The NJT has allocated $50,000 in emergency financial assistance to help BHCC students facing unexpected financial hardships remain enrolled and on track to complete their studies. City officials said the investment aims to improve student persistence and completion rates, particularly for low-income students who may face financial barriers to higher education.
The Trust is also supporting Bridge to Bachelor’s, a pilot program connected to the Future Beacons partnership between BHCC and UMass Boston. The initiative will provide financial support to 80 low-income students as they transition from earning an associate degree at Bunker Hill to pursuing a bachelor’s degree at UMass Boston. By reducing costs such as enrollment fees and other education-related expenses, the program aims to increase degree completion and create stronger pathways to family-sustaining careers and long-term economic mobility.
