Student Spotlight: John Camerlo
Thursday, April 16, 2026
BHCC student John Camerlo is channeling his passion for communication, creativity, and advocacy as a spring Communications Intern with Strategies for Children. Originally a music major, John began producing and promoting his own music as a teenager, teaching himself the technical and marketing skills to reach an audience. That early experience sparked a deeper interest in storytelling, messaging, and copywriting—leading him to change his major to Communications at BHCC and pursue opportunities that blend creativity with purpose.
During his internship, John is translating complex policy concepts into accessible, engaging content, including a social media campaign that adapts Strategies’ Advocacy 101 training into a series of Instagram posts. His goal is to empower others to use their voices to advance early childhood education. John believes effective marketing can be a powerful tool for change, helping people understand why an issue matters and how they can get involved. His prior internship at Ameba Marketing further strengthened his skills, giving him firsthand insight into how thoughtful communication can educate, build compassion, and drive advocacy.
As he prepares to graduate from BHCC later this spring and continue his marketing studies at UMass Boston, John is focused on the intersection of voice, advocacy, and impact. From attending Advocacy Day at the Massachusetts State House to supporting early education leaders and lawmakers, John’s journey illustrates the power of applied learning—and how BHCC students are making meaningful contributions on campus and beyond.
