The Division of Workforce and Economic Development at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) has partnered with Triumvirate Environmental, Inc., one of the largest environmental services firms in North America, to launch a new program offering employment and full tuition to selected new and continuing BHCC students starting in September 2022.
The program, the first of its kind at BHCC, offers students the opportunity to work full-time with benefits at a competitive wage starting at $18 an hour while earning an associate degree tuition-free at BHCC, a $13,700 value. Participating students may work toward their degree as quickly or slowly as they wish– Triumvirate will cover tuition for as long as the student remains employed.
“The partnership offers students a full-time opportunity for sustaining wages and economic mobility while earning an associate degree,” said Kristen McKenna, Dean, Workforce Development at BHCC. “This program can be a model to companies everywhere, allowing them to partner with BHCC to find motivated, skilled workers, and for students, this is an opportunity to obtain a degree tuition-free while jump-starting career advancement.”
Triumvirate is currently is offering two entry-level positions as part of the program: Material Handler, which entails traveling to Triumvirate client sites and safely collecting, documenting, and tracking hazardous materials and medical waste; and Environmental Technician, which entails onsite management of Triumvirate client site biohazard materials management and support of on-site lab operations.
Applications for the program are open now, and both prospective and continuing BHCC students are invited to apply. Triumvirate will interview candidates over the summer and conduct an initial screening process. Applicants will have to pass an initial screening process, depending on the position and the Talent acquisition team will guide prospective employees on their next steps. If offered a job at Triumvirate, candidates will be admitted to BHCC and meet with an admissions counselor later in the summer to choose their program of study.
“We are excited to partner with BHCC to provide pathways to professional success and an associate degree. BHCC students have proven themselves eager to learn and advance their careers in growth industries throughout the region,” said Deanna Creamer, Chief of Staff to the President at Triumvirate Environmental. “Not only do BHCC students represent a critical part of our future workforce, they also represent the diversity of the communities we serve.”
