What to Do If an Accommodation Request Is Denied
Our goal: to make sure every student has a fair, timely way to resolve concerns about denied accommodations.
Step 1: Talk DSS Decision through with Disabilities Counselor (Informal Resolution)
- Contact your Disability Services Coordinator within 10 business days of learning your request was denied.
- Ask to discuss the decision – they’ll review the reason and explore options.
- If you’re not satisfied after this conversation, move to Step 2.
Step 2: File a Formal Grievance
If the issue isn’t resolved informally:
- Write your grievance and submit it to the Director of Disability Services
- Include:
- Your name and contact info
- What accommodation was denied
- Why you disagree
- Any helpful disability related documents from your clinician or medical provider
- You’ll get a confirmation within 5 business days.
A written decision will be issued within 15 business days.
Step 3: Appeal (If Needed)
If you disagree with the decision, you can appeal in writing within 10 business days to the Dean of Student’s office at deanofstudents@bhcc.edu.
A final written response will follow.
