Central Processing, Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, and Patient Care Tech

Applicants to the Central Processing, Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, and Patient Care Technician programs may be required to take the Accuplacer English Test.

If you are eligible for a College Placement Testing Waiver based on your high school GPA, previous college course work, or on an SAT, ACT, GED, or other test score, you do not need to take this test.

Program

Placement Required

Applicants must place above ENG 090.

Scores that can satisfy this placement:

  • WritePlacer 2 or higher AND Reading 218 or higher OR
  • WritePlacer ESL 3 and ESL Reading 77 or higher OR
  • WritePlacer ESL 4 and ESL Reading 62 or higher OR
  • WritePlacer ESL 5 or higher with ESL Reading 200 or higher

Math: There is no minimum required math score you must achieve to be admitted to this program. However, students admitted to the program must take SGT-110 Central Processing II in their second semester. This course requires a placement above MAT-093. Students who do not place above MAT-093 need to take MAT-093 before they can take SGT-110.

Applicants may take either the Accuplacer math test or view the Guided Self-Placement Math Test Instructions

Applicants must place above ENG 095.

Scores that can satisfy this placement:

  • WritePlacer 4 or higher and Next Generation Reading score 259 or higher
  • WritePlacer 5 or above (no Next Generation Reading required) OR
  • WritePlacer ESL 6 or above

Math: There are no minimum math scores required for admission to these programs. Applicants may take either the Accuplacer math test or view the Guided Self-Placement Math Test Instructions.

Study Materials

Study materials are available here: https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/students/prepare-for-accuplacer/practice. Students can use these materials to study for either the Accuplacer or the Guided Self-Placement Math Test.

Students may test a maximum of 2 times and must wait 10 days between retests. A shorter wait is permitted 1-3 weeks prior to the start of a semester. Check with the Assessment Center for current dates. Scores are valid for two years

Accuplacer Scores from Other Schools

If you took the Accuplacer at another school within the past two years, you can share an official copy of your score report with BHCC through the Accuplacer Student Portal: studentportal.accuplacer.org.

Or, contact the school where you tested and ask them to send a copy of your score report to testing@bhcc.edu.
